Emergency Evacuation: Safe Egress of Persons with Disabilities from Transit Systems (Project ACTION 2004)

Project ACTION and The National Organization on Disability's Emergency Preparedness Initiative Addresses emergency evacuations for people with disabilities. Topics include: tips for transit agencies and people with disabilities, planning for safe evacuation, what to do during an emergency and what to do after an emergency. Concludes with a list of additional resources.

Equal Access to Safe Egress (McGinness 1992)

Based on MBTA's (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) efforts to develop and implement effective emergency procedures for people with disabilities, this report reviews policy and planning recommendations. It is a useful starting point for those concerned with disaster planning and preparedness.

Transportation Equity in Emergencies (FTA 2007)

The report explores the extent to which selected transit providers, metropolitan planning organizations, and state departments of transportation are identifying and addressing the needs of populations that may be especially vulnerable in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. The report also highlights resources that may help officials in metropolitan regions to better incorporate attention to populations with specific mobility needs into their ongoing emergency preparedness planning activities.
